Parks & Beaches

Relax In the Sun and Fresh Air

Whether you’re looking for some fun or a quiet day to yourself, you have plenty of beaches to choose from in the Athabasca Region.

Municipal Beaches

Enjoy the lakefront at one of four campgrounds and day-use areas maintained by Athabasca County. Enjoy access to the lake, boat launch, outhouses, playgrounds, fishing, and picnic areas. Baptiste Lake, Hope Lake (pictured above), Jackfish Lake, and Forfar Recreation Park all offer great facilities for a day at the beach. Visit our Campgrounds page for more information on these beaches.

Private Beaches

Shoreline Camping & Fishing Resort on Skeleton Lake provides access to the beach on Skeleton Lake for a fee, which includes a playground, picnic area, and boat launch.

If the water’s too cold, take a dip in their heated swimming pool, or play a game on the badminton or volleyball court.

Provincial Beaches

There are 3 Provincial Parks with campgrounds and great beaches within the Athabasca Region. North Buck Lake, east of Boyle, Cross Lake, between Westlock and Athabasca, and Long Lake south of Boyle.

Learn more about the provincial parks on our Campgrounds page.

Riverfront Park - Athabasca

The River Front Park in Athabasca has a spray park & outdoor gym (donated by the Athabasca Rotary Club), a skateboard park (donated by the Athabasca Skateboard Association) and a playground (donated by the Athabasca Lion’s Club).

Picnic tables and benches placed along the green space make an ideal stopping place for nature appreciation, or a lunch break.  Parking is plentiful, and access is ideal for campers and RVs.

Boyle Spray & Skate Park

The Boyle Spray and Skate Park is located next to the Boyle Arena. The Spray Park is open from 10 am to 9 pm during the summer months.

There are picnic tables between the spray and skate park for a place to sit or have an afternoon lunch!
