Fishing

Take the Bait!

Whether you are looking for guided-fishing tours, a more challenging fish-venture or just bragging rights, the Athabasca Region has numerous options for you!

Bring on the Fishing Challenge

Fishing experts, the Athabasca Region has something for you as well; tackle the mighty Athabasca River! Holding a spot as one of the longest free-flowing rivers in Alberta, the Athabasca River offers the challenges you seek on your next fishing adventure.

The Athabasca River is home to Goldeye, Rocky Mountain Whitefish, Northern Pike, Walleye, Grayline, Burbot and many others! The river flows the clearest during early Spring and Summer.

No boat, No Problem

Cast from many of the shores in the area, like the Boyle Fish Pond. You also have the option to fish from the Athabasca River shoreline just a short distance from Downtown Athabasca.

There are shore fishing opportunities at most lakes as well.

Guided Fishing Tours

The Athabasca Region has some great private operators that can get you to where the fish are!

Ice Fishing

Imagine the snow-capped trees, the sun glistening off miles of untouched powdery snow, and the crisp air filling your lungs. That’s the ideal spectacle for an Albertan winter and fitting scenery for a day of ice fishing in Athabasca.

Gone are the days when ice fishing was deemed as just a solitary activity. Today, gather a group of friends or family, tasty spirits to warm you up (or just coffee), snacks and embark on an ice fishing adventure together.

Licensing & Regulations

Fishing licenses and equipment can be purchased at Cheap Seats Sporting Goods and Canadian Tire in the town of Athabasca.

Check out the latest Visitor’s Guide for more information on lakes in the area and where the fish can be found.
