Get Out on the Water
The Athabasca Region has some of the most scenic lakes in Northern Alberta for you to enjoy!
Want even more excitement? The Athabasca River offers a watercraft experience like no other!
Jet Boating
A jet boat is propelled by expelling water out of the back of the craft.
This is the boat of choice for river enthusiasts, where sandbars, rocks, and other hazards make propellers risky.
Launch your boat from the Town of Athabasca or the day use areas at Poacher’s Landing or Richmond Park, and enjoy the ample wildlife, incredible history of trade, and stunning scenery.
Water Sports
If you want to take things up a notch, the Athabasca region has some great options for water-skiing and tubing.
Forfar Recreation Park, located on Long Lake, is a popular spot for thrill seekers. The lake gets its name honestly and is perfect for some fun on the water. Island Lake and North Buck Lake are two other places for you to splash around.
Canoeing, Kayaking & SUP
For those seeking a quieter adventure, canoeing, kayaking or stand-up paddle boarding are relaxing ways to explore any shoreline and enjoy a peaceful summer’s evening.
Jackfish Lake is popular with local paddlers, but with more than two dozen lakes in the region, you have plenty of options to explore every summer.
All of the County of Athabasca and Provincial campgrounds have boat launches. Some are for smaller watercraft. Please visit the websites for more info.
