Late Fall Things to Do in the Athabasca Region

If you are looking for a peaceful getaway before the craziness of the holiday season, the Athabasca Region is an excellent choice! The air is fresh, the leaves are crunchy, and the Fall events season is in full swing!

The Athabasca Region is 1.5 – 2 hours north of Edmonton and about 2 – 2.5 hours south of Fort McMurray. Spend less time driving and more time getting away from it all!

Here are some of the things you can experience during the late Fall in the Athabasca Region.

Rent a cozy cabin or lake cottage

The Athabasca Region has some pretty amazing vacation rentals. Some are cozy little cabins and others are luxury lakefront. There are also some great choices right in Athabasca.

The rentals on the region’s west side are between 10 and 30 minutes away from Athabasca. Depending on the weather, the water should be open if you want to venture out for some fishing or canoeing. There are also some hiking opportunities in the area. Ask your host for recommendations.

Choices on the East side of the region are between 10 – 30 minutes to Boyle. Stop into the village to stock up before heading to your cozy cabin. Enjoy the lake or go on a hike!

Check out our Vacation & Cabin Rental listings for more information.

Visit The Forest

While the weather is still mild, a hike on one of the Athabasca Region’s scenic and sometimes historic trails is worth the drive! Breathe deeply as you crunch the leaves along the trail. Relax in the peaceful forest!

There are hikes at various skill levels throughout the region! Sticking to urban areas or municipal and provincial parks is safer during hunting season. The Wilderness areas allow hunting and they will be busy. Remember to continue to be bear smart. With the mild weather, bears might not be denning yet.

With the proximity of 3 hikes within 5 minutes of Downtown Athabasca, you could make a hiking weekend itinerary that includes different scenery and amazing views, with the amenities of town around the corner.
